Maize and soybean: more tonnes per dollar invested

August 2026 · 2 min read
Freshly harvested field of an extensive crop, with the stubble on the surface

25 to 40% lower cost per hectare than conventional management, with 5.6 to 6.7 t/ha in maize: 33 to 50% less cost per tonne.

What was compared

Maize and soybean systems under regenerative management, against conventional management in the same zone, in cost per hectare, yield and cost per tonne produced. They are cases of commercial growers, not experimental plots. We do not publish amounts: the percentages are those of the measured cases.

What the plan includes

The reference plan is the same as for soybean: pre-sowing desiccation with CARBOfol and FILABIOSA, seed treatment with GrowBox, in-furrow inoculation, applications by stage with VitaCrop and VitaTricol, the chelated foliar complement that corresponds to each stage and the final desiccation. All on top of the management the grower already has, not in place of it.

Maize

  • Cost per hectare: 25 to 40% less than conventional management.
  • Yield: 5.6 to 6.7 t/ha against 5.0 t/ha for the regional average. 12 to 34% more.
  • Cost per tonne: 33 to 50% less.

Soybean

  • Cost per hectare: 25 to 40% less.
  • Stable yield: 4.0 to 5.0 t/ha, 10 to 20% more than the unstable conventional systems of the zone.
  • Cost per tonne: 25 to 40% less.

Why the cost falls

Because the same input yields more when there is biology to process it. The plan does not replace the production system: it makes it work better. The fertiliser the grower already applies leaches less and more of it reaches the root; the desiccation needs less active ingredient for the same control; and the applications against fungi and insects last longer, so there are fewer passes over the plot. Every pass saved saves machinery, labour and fuel.

An honest note

We do not compete litre for litre with the price of the synthetic input: comparing that way is seeing the tree and not the forest. The value is in the whole, medium-term productivity, less risk, less dependence on imported inputs and a soil that gains value instead of degrading. The published ranges are those of the measured cases, 2025/26 season, and vary with the zone and the year. More tonnes per dollar invested is the summary; the numbers for each plot are shared with their full protocol.
