Cotton in the Chaco: thrips control persistence went from 5 to 15 days

July 2026 · 2 min read
Treated cotton field with open bolls

Fifty hectares against fifty, with level-four initial infestation and removal of synthetic application boosters.

What was done

Cotton trial in the Chaco, fifty hectares treated against fifty control, with a level-four initial thrips infestation. The treated plot followed the scheme of modular packs by stage, with CARBOterra at 200 kg/ha in the seed row, and CARBOfol+ in every crop protection application as a neutral-pH application booster, replacing synthetic boosters, oils and pH regulators.

What was measured

  • Persistence of thrips control: 15 days under management with CARBOfol+ against 5 days under traditional management. It triples the persistence.
  • Yield: 50% more on the treated plot, with better thrips control and no lower-square rot.
  • Early application at squaring: 2,922 kg/ha against 2,221 for the control.

On a commercial 2,000-hectare cotton plot, the same scheme allowed effective control under high humidity and removed synthetic boosters, oils and pH regulators from the spray mix.

Why the application lasts longer

CARBOfol+ improves the coverage and adhesion of the spray mix on the leaf: the active ingredient reaches and stays where it has to act, and every application lasts as long as it should. It is the neutral-pH version of our functional carbon, formulated for the active ingredients that should not be acidified. For desiccation, the acid one is CARBOfol.

How it is applied

CARBOfol+ goes at 1 to 1.5 L/ha in the spray mix of the application already planned, with no oil or pH regulator. The cotton scheme is the same as for soybean, with modular packs by stage: desiccation with CARBOfol and FILABIOSA, seed treatment, in-furrow inoculation and the applications of the cycle with VitaCrop and VitaTricol. CARBOterra at 200 kg/ha in the seed row is the single application that stays in the soil for several seasons.

What it means for the grower

Fewer passes over the plot for the same control. Saving a pass saves machinery, labour and fuel, not just the price of the product. And a spray mix without synthetic boosters, with organic matter and organic acids that are neither toxic nor saline, stimulates the microbiota instead of punishing it.

An honest note

The fifty-against-fifty trial is a comparison of plots, not a design with replications. The persistence data are field observations by the technical team, recorded on the reinfestation dates.
